At fifteen I aspired to become a learned man; By the age of thirty I had established myself; After I reached forty, nothing bewildered me any more; At fifty I began to understand the mandate of heaven; At sixty my ears became receptive to all remarks; Once I was seventy I was able to follow my heart’s desire freely without overstepping the bounds.

The wide sea allows the fish to leap about and vast sky the birds to fly

意译:The field of activity is vast with brilliant prospects where much can be accomplished.

A grasp of mundane affairs is genuine knowledge; an understanding of worldly wisdom is true learning.

  其中“世事洞明”可以译为“the grasp / command / insight of mundane affairs”。

Approaching the age of 70, I should be said to be weather-beaten and insightful about the mundane affairs yet I’m still alternately sober and muddled.

Such freedom is infinite as well as finite in that the infinite liberty of mind is confined in the finite living sphere.

When Confucius said: “Once I was seventy I was able to follow my heart’s desire freely without overstepping the bounds”, he must have achieved supreme enlightenment.

It means that we, after the discovery of our individual way of living, build our own “Realm of Liberty” in the depths of our minds.
