自从金融危机爆发后，何时会出现“拐点”成为人们最关心的话题，不仅市场有“拐点 ”、股市有“拐点”，还有房价、政策等等都有“拐点”。“拐点”之说，在 08 年是一个颇为热门的话题。元旦之后，这个话题似乎有“风云突变”之势，反对“ 拐点”的议论开始占了上风。有人戏言曰：“拐点”之争，在新年里出现了“拐点”。

上面报道中提到的 turning point 就是指“拐点”。“拐点”本来是个数学名词。学过高等数学的人都熟悉它，当平面曲线经历从上凸至下凹或从下凹至上凸的分界点，此点便考试*大称为“拐点”。通俗地讲，就是我们常说的“转折点、契机”。例如：After joining the company, my career has had a very smooth development. It seems that this job-hopping is a turning point for me（我来到新公司发展得不错， 看来这次跳槽是我的一个转折点）。This is a turning point in history（这是历史的转折点）。
走出“拐点”，可以说成是 turn the corner，如：Time for dollar to turn the corner?（美元即将走出拐点？）经济形势突然出现向上的“拐点”，还可以用 turnaround 来表示，如：The turnaround could not come at a better time（这是逆转局势的最佳时机）。
除了 turning point 外，在口语中，我们还经常用 a big break 来表示“大转折、大的突破”之意。如：When the star was taken ill, the understudy finally got her first big break（主角生病的时候，那个候补演员终于得到了第一个露脸的机会）。
